Peer Review

Peer review is an essential component of scholarly communication. It is the mechanism that facilitates the publication of primary research in respected scientific journals. In recent years, there has been a good deal of debate about the effectiveness of peer review. Q-Con has commissioned new research that will provide quantitative data to enlighten the debate on peer review. Establishing baseline data will provide not only greater understanding of the current position of peer review but also a platform for future studies. The main objective of this research is to measure the attitudes and behaviors of the academic community with regard to peer review. This will inform debate concerning peer review and underpin discussions, either in discussion lists or at future workshops/conferences

Project Management

Our full-time, devoted project managers are critical thinkers, they have excellent communications skills, and they manage each process and project professionally and knowledgeably.

Duties of the Project Manager:

• Analyze processes and plan projects appropriately to meet the needs of each title.

• Prepare a project schedule or adhere to the customer’s schedule; regularly update project status reports.

• Log in all work and manage all production editorial tasks.

• Interface with authors, editors, proofreaders, publishers, indexers, and printers.

• Serve as the bridge between the customer and the production team.

Copyediting

Q-Con’s copyeditors are well trained in the 5Cs: clear, correct, concise, comprehensible, and consistent. They hold master’s degrees in various fields, including medical, legal, and the humanities. They undergo rigorous training and testing to ensure they are completely familiar with the voice and style of the customer’s content.

The copyeditors are proficient at handling light-, medium-, and premium-level language editing. Each publication is assigned a dedicated team to ensure consistency and accuracy in applying the specific style points provided by the customer.

Our copyediting services include:

• Pre-editing and structuring each document according to the customer’s specifications.

• Following specific editorial style guides, such as a house style and/or the Chicago Manual of Style, AMA Manual of Style, APA, etc. We can also help the customer develop a comprehensive editorial style, if that is required.

• Applying rules of grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.

• Performing careful proofreading reviews.

Proofreading

Q-Con’s proofreaders have undergone stringent training to adhere to the highest quality standards.

Our proofreaders check and incorporate the edits made by our in-house team. They examine the page specifications and designs to ensure that all elements on each page meet the requirements of the customer.

We can provide cold-read proofreading and comparative proofreading at the publisher’s discretion.

Page Composition and Design

We follow an XML-first workflow that allows the publisher to be flexible in choosing the method of delivery, such as print, CD ROM, Web, or e-book production. The composition software that we use is QuarkXpress and InDesign.
